Frequently Asked Questions
What is Ashiatsu ? Are you walking on my back?
Ashiatsu, translates to “foot pressure” in Japanese and has been around for centuries. It recently became westernized within the last 20 years with the use of oil and overhead parallel bars for the therapist to maintain balance. Contrary to what your first impression may be, Ashiatsu is not “walking on the back.” The therapist uses slow, gliding pressure with the foot to provide deep yet relaxing massage. The soft contours of the foot provide a broader tool that is makes for a more comfortable experience when receiving deeper work. The parallel bars overhead allow the therapist to have consistent and complete control of the pressure. There is a “flow” to the ashiatsu massage that induces a deep state of relaxation.
Do I get undressed for my massage?
Some people undress completely and some are more comfortable with their underwear on. Be aware that the more clothes on, the more they may interfere with certain techniques, but your comfort is our number one priority. You will be draped with a sheet and blanket during the entire massage. Before and after your session you will undress and dress in complete privacy.
Is Ashiatsu for me?
Ashiatsu is typically meant for the client looking for a deep therapeutic massage. But because of the ability of the therapist to control her body weight and pressure, many clients who prefer relaxing Swedish massage also love the Ashiatsu massage.
How long are the massage sessions?
We offer sessions in increments of 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes. A 30 minute session would be more geared towards one specific area, i.e. neck and shoulders. 60 to 90 minutes is recommended for our Swedish or deep tissue massage depending on your goals. Ashiatsu can be experienced in a 60 minute session, but because of the slow pace and technique we recommend at least 90 minutes. For the seasoned massage connoisseur up 120 minutes is the key to ultimate bliss!
Note: These are FULL 30,60,90,120 minute sessions as opposed to some other spas that only offer 50-55 or 80-85 minute sessions.
